If you do, do you make the soaps just for your family or do you make them for friends, and family or to sell?

I've been making a few bars of soaps but I really need to get some new soap molds.

That is another question where have you found the best prices on soap molds? Also last question on this topic for now is what would be a good price to set prices at if I am able to start selling soaps at the flea markets, like a good starting price, I've found several places I can get soap making supplies, but I'm not sure about how to set prices, because depending on the soap it can take a lot to make a bar of soap, or not so much. Just depends on what kind that is being made, I can't afford to make anything and sell it for what it costs me to make, in other words I need to be able to make a profit if I am going to do it at all.

I am thinking of making a variety of soaps to sell at a local flea market, provided we are able to get the car running so I can actually get some place. My dh tried fixing something else on the car, but it did not work and it could take a little longer to get it fixed, the car is driving me crazy actually, and the van is not a lot better it is running but barely. I just hope it does not go out too. Anyway, I'm rambling as usual...

I am also thinking about making candle's but I've not made candle's since I lived up north, so I was wondering how hard it would be to get started making candle's I don't currenly have any thing to make candle's I do have a few things pertaining to making soaps. so I am thinking I will need to start with soaps and if that does well I could move on to candle's.

So anyway, just thought I'd see whether or not anyone else is currently doing this and see if this is a good idea or not?

I plan to make some nice soaps to give as Christmas gifts this year. I don't know how it will go because I've never made any before, but I'm willing to try it.

I think you are looking at selling, then start small and see how the sales go. That way you don't have a lot of money or time invested and then not get any profits.
It seems like it would be a good seller around the holidays.
I found a book a the library that had bath salts, bubble baths, and candles along with soaps.

The idea was to make each thing and put them together in a theme type basket to give for gifts.

It sure looked nice done that way!

Look into soy candles with essential oils for fragrance. They are usually very easy, some even have instruction on melting soy was in the microwave, pouring in the oils you like, and pouring into a jar very simple... People are into natural things and to hear it's got oils for the fragrance would probably be a good seller. I don't like to use artificial fragrances anymore personally...

I have only made a few simple soaps fragranced with oils and only for personal use and gifts. No idea on good mold prices either. Not much help am I hehe! Good luck

cold processed soap, no molds, just cut them with my krinkle cutter from Pampered Chef. I put essential oils in them.

I'm trying to hunt down a recipe now for it.

I make Castile soap (using lye) and I have silicone muffin "pans" that I mold the soap in. It is great because of the heat and they pop right out. The shape is fine too. We have added vanilla, cinnamon and ground oatmeal to our soaps--smells yummy, just don't eat it! Ha! Have fun with it!
Blessings,
Lisa
