Welcome! We're glad you visited this page. Have you wondered about Christianity? Followers of Jesus Christ are full of HOPE. Through all the trials of this life, we have the PROMISE and COMFORT of eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
Here are a few brief thoughts to help you explore the idea of being a follower of Christ.
Christians are people who are committed to following the Way of Jesus Christ. Do you know what Jesus said the most important rule of all is? Read it in his own words:
- So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you... (Matthew 7:12)
- ...Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you... Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:27-38, 31)
The Christian faith calls for us to love others -- regardless of anything. Jesus loves you! He wants you to follow him. His promises include a peace that passes understanding now and a future in Paradise. What are you waiting for? Could it be a few of these thoughts?
- "I've done too many bad things in my life for there to be any hope for me."
We are ALL sinners. Who is to say that one person's sins are greater than another? Ask the Lord for forgiveness for all the bad things you've done, and quit doing them! The Lord WILL forgive you! And He'll help you stay on a positive path if you ask him to. Here's a story that you will enjoy reading to help you understand. Start talking to the Lord! He's listening all the time. - "The Christians I've met would never accept me. I don't have the right clothes, job, whatever, and I live on the wrong side of town."
We are all trying to follow Jesus and love everyone, but it's not easy for any of us. Please forgive us if you've gotten this message! We REALLY want you to come to know Jesus, and you can do that right in your own home. Read the Bible on-line. Here's a reading guide to get you started.
Ready to visit a church where you will be welcomed no matter who you are? The Salvation Army has worship services that welcome EVERYONE, no matter what kind of clothes you wear, where you came from, how smart you are, how much money you have, or whatever. Explore the website to find local services, or better yet, open your phone book and call the Salvation Army to ask about their church services (every Sunday!) or to speak with someone about following Jesus Christ. They will be very glad to speak with you! - "I don't know how to pray. I've never done it before!"
You aren't alone! Getting started is the hardest part. Praying is just like having a conversation, so start talking. God is ALWAYS listening! Ask first for forgiveness of all the bad things you've done -- little and large! Ask Him to fill you up with the Holy Spirit -- Jesus Christ within you. You'll find great peace when the Lord is with you. Then pour out your heart. He is listening and will wrap His loving arms around you and bless you in ways you can't imagine! The Lord's response to you may be in the way you feel, renewed strength or hope, someone else calling or visiting you, or even hearing His voice. Sometimes you may not get a response at all. If this is the case, keep asking the Lord for direction and LISTENING for His response. He will show you the way in good time with many lessons about patience, love, and obedience.
Are Christians perfect?
NO! We make mistakes like anyone else, but we try to become better and follow the path of Jesus Christ. Come join us on this path by starting your conversation with the Lord! Follow up with a visit to the Salvation Army or another neighborhood church.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
