Catch the Sewing Bug is a collection of twenty-five easy sewing projects for the beginner. Each project has a list of materials, instructions for cutting, and step-by-step sewing directions. A couple of the projects have small patterns in the back of the book, but most are made from measured pieces of cloth. This program is intended for younger children, ages four to eight. A parent will definitely need to assist with the projects.

A few pages of basic sewing information appear at the beginning of Catch the Sewing Bug. A list of sewing supplies needed, a diagram of the sewing maching, a section about threading and caring for the machine, and sewing rules are included. The book ends with a recommendation to move into Stitches & Pins or Buckles and Bobbins.

Recommendation: Catch the Sewing Bug will keep your young seamstress busy for quite a while! The projects are items that a girl could use or give for gifts. Catch the Sewing Bug would be a nice follow-up after the sewing curriculum, Stitches & Pins. The student might find a few of the projects to be easier than the ones in the curriculum, but she would be able to do them independently. With help from an experienced parent, very young children can use Catch the Sewing Bug.

Sewing & Growing with Jesus

The Sewing & Growing with Jesus devotional is written for four to eight year olds to use as they work through Catch the Sewing Bug. For each page of Catch the Sewing Bug, the parent reads a Bible story and then covers the character lesson outlined in the devotion. A song and a memory verse are recommended for each story.

Recommendation: These devotions are at the perfect level for young children! Each one encourages children to think about the Lord and how they can follow Him better. Sewing & Growing with Jesus is a valuable addition to Catch the Sewing Bug.
