Capitalism for Kids encourages young people to start their own businesses. Beginning with an overview of money and socio-economic systems, Karl Hess makes a strong case for children to be capitalists who champion a free market economy. He then points out a myriad of ways that young people can make money by working for themselves or others. Volunteer work is represented as an outstanding way to gain experience and help others. Mr. Hess lays out rules for ethical business practices, even among kids.

The common thread throughout the entire book is Mr. Hess's emphasis on the need to work. He provides examples of many self-made multi-millionaires who became successful through diligence and creating and seizing opportunities. Taking risks, being a thinking person, and embracing change are three of the characteristics that help people get ahead.

Recommendation: Captialism for Kids provides excellent ideas and encouragement for young people to start working now. With the case studies of successful business people, Mr. Hess shows readers a feasible way to an entrepreneurial future. His explanation of free markets is very helpful and will let the next generation have a better understanding of economics long before they take a formal class on the subject.
