Israel Wayne, marketing director and columnist for Home School Digest, brings forth a fresh viewpoint on Christian homeschooling in Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview . Homeschooled through all but one of his growing up years in a broken family environment, the author offers encouragement and advice from the perspective of a young man looking back over the hurdles that his mother overcame and the strengths he gained from homeschooling. |
The book begins with a discussion of the importance of knowing Jesus rather than having an education for the sake of being called educated. Mr. Wayne differentiates some of the different educational philosophies and purposes in light of political directions such as capitalism and socialism. He speaks at length about the "Modernist" and "Post-Modernist/New Age" philosophies. Using these philosophies Mr. Wayne then proceeds through many school subjects (math, language arts, history, philosophy, etc.) and discusses how he feels a Christian worldview should be incorporated rather than the public school or general non-Christian implementation is currently done. After expounding on socialization and family ministry, he concludes the book with common excuses not to homeschool and refutes each one.
Recommendation: Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview offers support and argument in favor of homeschooling that will surely be food for thought for the unconvinced. The author suggests many ways to make Christ the center of your homeschool and your life with hope filled, inspirational ideas. Most of all, Israel Wayne stands as a testament that despite lifes obstacles, homeschooling can be successful.
